Santuary Island

Sihanoukville, Cambodia

The project is inspired by the fascinating quality of ancient ruins found throughout the Cambodian landscape which the nature has assimilated the architecture into itself. The project is conceived as a fabric of rough tropical landscape where the cracks in the earth open up to reveal the solid stone surface as a space for human to occupy. The architecture itself is only a light shed structure held up by thin columns which lightly touch the ground and protect the habitable space from the sun and the rain. The place sits quietly on the hill overlooking the ocean beyond. The nature and the architecture become an integral part of one another.
